So, fashion is in the midst of an oversize revolution everyone tells me – and it has been for a while. Well that means interiors must be too, or just about to be? In my world, most of us live in undersize spaces (I just wish I had a bigger house…..another room would really help….somewhere to store my….). This prompted me to consider, what does oversize actually mean and is it a thing or is it more of an attitude?
Comfort has to be up there at its core. Oversize clothing enable you to relax and facilitate a joie d’vivre that just cannot be attained with a bandage dress. Just ask someone who wears both.
Confidence with an ‘I don’t care attitude’ is close behind. Yes I have supermodel dimensions but I don’t need to prove it so I don’t need to show it – hence my beautiful, hand embroidered kaftan.
But perhaps, ultimately oversize really means inspiring in a unique and rule breaking way.
So, here’s my takeaway for ‘oversizing’ your interiors:
- Get rid of that uncomfortable, awkward chair/stool/table position….. treat yourself to something relaxing. From a cosy corner sofa to a plump appliquéd cushion. Big or small, new or old, budget or luxurious – revel in the comfort it brings.
- Break an interiors rule….don’t let magazines and insta-stories dictate your interiors styling principles and choices. Make an interiors decision based on your personal preferences, however unconventional that may be.
