Recently my mother became an octogenarian. And her devoted family wanted to surprise her on her birthday….not easy to get past a matriarch who has always had and continues to have her finger on the pulse. So keeping her birthday celebrations secret was never going to be easy, but with a number of close calls en route we managed to succeed.
We had booked a private dining room in a very well known London restaurant for lunch and our expectations were running high. We had great expectations for the food, the dining room itself, the afternoon, the specially commissioned cake, of everything really – it was that kind of vibe.
Well it gives me great pleasure to report it was one of those rare occasions when absolutely everything worked out. And I have to say the dining room was stunning, it was so carefully and elegantly curated. The sizes and proportions; the accessories and artefacts it was all just glorious. I know I’m a designer and some would say biased, but the room really did make the surprise birthday lunch super special for everyone that was there. The room was befitting of the occasion and that matters.
Now I know for my mother it was the people in the room above all else that made the day so wonderful for her, but the room was a masterclass in design and did not go un-noticed by her.
People will always trump interiors……but interiors trump everything else!
So, my takeaway for interiors trump everything else:
- Who and what are you creating the space for? Who will frequent and therefore appreciate it the most – have them front of mind.
- What will bring them joy in the environment? Don’t over-complicate – if they are happy you will be happy.
- Contact us to create your own masterclass environment – it’s what we do best.
